Ancient spelling

Read on this page about how the Bengenese spelling has evolved since its beginnings.

Letters that are no longer used

This section is preceded by a single letter: ĉ. This letter made the sound [k] and formed a digraph with the letter h: ĉh, which received the sound [t͡ʃ]. This letter is now deprecated, replaced by the letters k and č, which make the same sounds as ĉ.
